After initially coming from a background in training and development, I re-trained as a Hypnotherapeutic Coach and have been in private practice since 2011. Over the years, I noticed a common theme; clients were frustrated with the other therapies they had tried; where they were encouraged to endlessly rehash past problems or apply rational thinking to emotional symptoms in the hope they would simply vanish.
Here they were presenting to me, months, sometimes years later, reporting that nobody had been able to help them and whilst the deep relaxation and hypnotic suggestions were calming them down and helping them see a way forward; it was clear that many clients were looking for a practical and more solution focused element too.
Time and time again I found myself dipping into one book in particular; Human Givens – A New Approach to Emotional Health and Clear Thinking. This invaluable resource makes sense of human nature; explaining our needs for meaning, security, status, privacy, attention, connection, community, volition, achievement. These nine emotional needs create a framework for a new common sense approach to therapy, and they really resonated with me, and my clients too!
In 2019 I decided to take the plunge by completing the full Human Givens Diploma and I have since been awarded full Human Givens Practitioner status.
My specialisms are trauma, anxiety and OCD; working with charity PTSD Resolution providing therapy for veterans and reservists.
